Charlottehaven was built by Finn Harald Simonsen of Copenhagen and opened in 2001 with 178 rental homes. Charlottehaven’s 44 hotel apartments were opened a few years later in 2004.
Finn Harald Simonsen and his family have built good and modern housing for more than 80 years, including Hostrups Have, Axel Møllers Have and Lindevangsgården in Frederiksberg, Svanemøllegården, Ulfsgård and Ringkøbinggåden in Østerbro, and, in recent times, Allerød Have in Allerød and ABC Huset on Frederiksberg Allé; all of these housing complexes speak for themselves.
In the late 1980s, Finn Harald Simonsen purchased Kryolitgrunden in Østerbro. The first building erected on the grounds was Tietgens Have, which for many years housed the Danish Tax and Customs Administration, among others. In the late 1990s, the grounds were further developed when Finn Harald Simonsen resumed his long-standing cooperation with the architects Boje Lundgaard and Lene Tranberg to build 178 rental homes. The building was named Charlottehaven after Finn Simonsen’s wife, Charlotte Bergsøe Simonsen. Charlottehaven – phase 1 – opened in 2001 and was quickly fully occupied.
Finn Harald Simonsen was very inspired by his many years abroad and the idea behind Charlottehaven was to create an elegant and exclusive environment for healthy and inspiring activities. He wanted to give Østerbro a unique centre where users could exercise, stay in serviced apartments, dine and hold private and business gatherings. Once again, this project was realised in cooperation with Lundgaard and Tranberg. Charlottehaven – phase 2 – opened in May 2004.
Charlottehaven is beautifully framed by landscape architect Stig Andersen’s garden. Both the building and the garden have received many awards for their stylish and functionalist design.
Many are also familiar with Finn’s grandfather, Harald Simonsen, who stood behind the construction of many buildings in Copenhagen in the 1930s and 1940s.
